Story

Mt. Myoko (top 100 mountain of Japan) in the Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park has long been considered a sacred mountain where spirits and gods live, as well as a place of worship and for “Shugendo” religious training. Participants of this tour will retrace the paths taken by pilgrims of Mt. Myoko since ancient times, starting from Sekiyama Shrine, a place of worship for Mt. Myoko that has long been used by the residents of its neighbourhoods.

On Day 1 the scene will be set with a tour introduction from a local guide recounting tales of the history of the shrine and of mountain worship. You will then follow a beautiful tree-lined route to the Tsubame Onsen area with a local, professional mountaineering guide.

On Day 2, the guide will take participants to the peak of Mt. Myoko, via the waterfalls, ponds, small shrines, and rocks that have been considered sacred since ancient times. Retrace the footsteps of local ancestors as you ascend the rugged trails of this great sacred mountain and admire the fabulous variety of views and panoramas.
