Travel back in time to the roots of Hokkaido and experience a simpler time when people lived in balance with nature. See how their spirituality still echoes in Japanese culture today.
Whether leisurely riding a Hakodate streetcar, hiking the slopes of the mountain, or cycling through the beauty of Hokkaido’s nature, you will find a hidden gem of Japan. At all stages, local and knowledgeable guides will enlighten you with stories of the past, from the Jomon to the Ainu, and explain their deep connection to the beautiful nature all around you. On day one, ride beside the Tsugaru Straits which ancient people braved to establish trade with the main island. See fishermen who still harvest the same kelp as the Jomon and Ainu and contemplate their lives both past and present. Your destination will be two Jomon heritage sites where your journey to the past will continue. At night, enjoy a sumptuous meal made from local products and soak in a hot spring after a long day.
On day two, cycle through the gentle slopes at the foot of the mountains. Majestic forests line both sides and you can deeply breathe in the fresh air as you cross gently babbling streams. Your unforgettable ride will finish back in the heart of Hakodate.
