You may have heard of a ‘Global Citizen’ before, but what does it mean, and how can you become one?
Simply put, ‘Global Citizenship’ is a new way of thinking and living that transcends the barriers of nationality, race and language. Having been actively implemented in the education of children across the world for well over a decade, the concept has been around for far longer and encourages all of us to adopt a wider and more open mindset in regards to how we think, travel and interact with others.
While some people may focus solely on the events occurring in their own country and hold a divisive ‘us-vs-them’ mentality built upon the idea that race and nationality are the foundations of identity, a Global Citizen takes the time to stay informed of news and events from both their own country and abroad, and actively seeks a way to help fight against injustice and inequality no matter where it may occur or who it may affect. Global Citizens view the entire world as their ‘home’ (not just the country within which they were born) and as a result care deeply about sustainability and doing their bit to keep the planet healthy.
A Global Citizen celebrates diversity and respects the traditions and beliefs of others, which makes them the perfect person to enjoy off-the-beaten-track, experience-based travel.
The ideas behind Global Citizenship – diversity, respect, sustainability, sympathy, etc. – are all ones that can help to make the world a better place and promote more understanding and equality. Through our immersive tours which allow travellers to interact with local communities, learn about rural Japanese life and share in authentic experiences, we hope to encourage more people to become Global Citizens and to explore the world with an open and curious mind.
