【3rd】A Report on Our Webinar for Overseas Travel Agencies _ JAN, 2025

On January 28, 2025, we held a webinar entitled “The Old Hida Kaido as a New Alternative”.
The purpose of this webinar was to introduce the Old Hida Kaido as a new travel option for international travel agencies, particularly as a potential solution to the challenges of overtourism in Japan.

In recent years, Japan has gained increasing attention as a highly attractive destination for international travelers. However, this popularity has led to severe overcrowding at some well-known tourist sites. In particular, the Nakasendo Trail (Magome-Tsumago area) has faced problems such as a shortage of accommodations.

To address this, Heartland Japan proposed four alternative routes along the Old Hida Kaido, using Kiso-Fukushima as a base. These routes offer new hiking experiences and a chance to explore the hidden charm of Japan.

Topics Covered

In this webinar, Daniel Moore, one of our guides and an expert on guiding in the Chubu region, took the stage and gave a detailed introduction to the charms of the old Hida Kaido Road.

Participant Feedback

The webinar used Zoom’s chat feature to take questions in real time, and participants showed a high level of interest in the topic. The webinar was a lively exchange of views compared to previous webinars, especially as many questions were asked verbally.

A survey conducted after the webinar showed that many participants were very interested in the Old Hida Kaido and that it has great potential as a tourist destination.

The webinar reaffirmed that the Old Hida Kaido is not only a solution to overtourism, but also a valuable route that can provide travellers with new discoveries and experiences.
Heartland Japan will continue to promote the region’s attractions and work with overseas travel agents to expand sustainable travel options in Japan.
