An initiative is underway in the small town of Kuroshio on the southern coast of the island of Shikoku to improve the environment and develop sustainable tourism. To this end, the Shikoku District Transport Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has released a questionnaire to assist in the development of a new disaster prevention handbook.
Projections indicate that a tsunami of up to nearly 35 meters could potentially devastate the area, the highest such projections in the country, and the questionnaire is designed to assist with researching what should be included in a handbook written in both English and Chinese that would include information on what foreign visitors should do if they encounter such an emergency.
The survey includes questions about what kinds of activities tourists to the town of Kuroshio would be interested in experiencing, as well as questions about what kind of information foreign guests would want included in such a handbook. The questionnaire covers 26 items and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Anyone able to read and write in English or Chinese is welcome to participate. Your responses could very well help save the lives of foreign tourists in the event of an emergency, so we highly value your opinions and appreciate your cooperation.
